Can dogs eat garlic?

Garlic is part of the same allium family as onions and is documented as toxic to dogs, being more concentrated than onion by weight. It can damage red blood cells and cause anaemia. It appears widely in cooked dishes, sauces and seasoning, which is where most accidental exposure is reported.
